Affirmations is a new age terminology that refers primarily to the practice of positive thinking and self-empowerment. It is a type of fostering belief that a "positive mental attitude supported by affirmations will achieve success in anything."
Now, if you asked me several years ago to create daily affirmations for myself to help foster a positive mindset; I would have thought to myself, "you are literally crazy". Affirmations are fairly new to me, I've been working with them for about six months now and not only do I feel the difference in my daily thoughts but others can see the difference in my personality as well. These affirmations are so very important in overcoming self-sabotaging, negative thoughts that we are all so good at.
There are several ways to use affirmations. One, is to pick one or two that will help you visualize and believe in, what you are affirming to yourself. Whether that be, I am fearless to manifest that negative thought of anxiety or I am wealthy to instill that thought of where you are going with your career or just in life. If we think "I am so broke" all the time, guess what.... we are going to be broke. But when you instill the positive thought of I am wealthy, it allows us to create a positive environment with room in our mind to grow and focus on what we need to do to get there. For myself, I started using affirmations every time that I started feeling anxious. I would write down as many affirmations as I could on a piece of paper and would reflect on them for 10 minutes. This allowed me to pull my mind away from any anxious thoughts and be mindful on a positive task. Pictured, is an example of some affirmations that I wrote today, however, most days tend to be a lot longer than that. Reflecting on these and writing them daily, really help create a positive mindset. They re-affirm all the good qualities about me and set goals of how I want to feel.
The key is repetition, so you fill your mind with positive thought throughout the day. Write them down, say them when you wake up in the morning, before you go to sleep at night. Believe your words and believe in yourself. If you need help with affirmations, please contact me. There are also many affirmation examples that can be found via Google or Pinterest!
You're homework for today is to get a notebook, piece of paper, a napkin and write down an affirmation that applies to you. Feeling extra anxious, make a list with several affirmations and repeat it. Focus on the positive mindset and do this daily. You will see a difference in your thoughts.
